I have loved fudge popsicles since I was young but it wasn’t until recently when I saw a box of organic ones at Costco that I started to eat them again (and a little too often if I do say so myself).  Okay, I should probably come clean here. By a little often I mean there are nights where I have consumed three, but then again I was nursing my toddler and pregnant with #3 at the time this was happening so maybe we can just look over those weak moments 😉

While I still love the fudge popsicles I found there, I don’t make it out to Costco all of that often so I had to try something for myself. I found a few recipes online but almost everything I was finding contained dairy. While I’m not 100% dairy-free, my 3 year old son is and so we are pretty much removing it from anything else we make at home.

That said, once he’s asleep at night I never mind having a bite of dairy-filled vanilla ice cream or a bowl of yogurt and granola topped with fresh organic strawberries from the garden.

I made some ingredient substitutions and tried a half-dozen batches before our first success. After that it was just some final tweaks  (I went a little overboard with the maple syrup once) and here we are.

Vegan, Dairy-free Fudge Popsicles

Dairy-free & Vegan Fudge Popsicles


– 1 large avocado, ripe
– 1 and ½ cups dairy-free milk (we use unsweetened almond milk)
– ½ cup maple syrup
– ⅓ cup cocoa powder
– 1 tbsp vanilla extract
– pinch of salt


1. Cut the avocado in half. Remove the pit and scoop the flesh into a blender. Throw away the skin.
2. Place the rest of the ingredients in the blender. Blend until smooth.
3. Pour into ice molds and allow to freeze.
